Etnia Barcelona

A brand that embodies being free through color and art

CREATING GLASSES FOR THREE GENERATIONS

In the 1950s, Fulgencio Ramo—grandfather of David Pellicer, who is the current owner of the company—created his first eyewear factory. His children helped out there and quickly acquired all of the know-how of the business to take over the reins. This second generation designed, created and distributed the glasses all over Spain, but it was not until the 1990s when David Pellicer joined the company with the dream of creating something new.

AN INDEPENDENT EYEWEAR BRAND

David brought color to a product that, up until that point, had only been brown or black. If there was one thing he knew, it was that he did not want to dedicate his efforts to just manufacturing glasses; he wanted something more. That something was creating a brand. A brand that embodied the idea of being free, human and respectful towards all ethnicities. He wanted a brand that thought of all people and forms of expression through color and art. That’s how Etnia Barcelona was born.

THE CITY THAT INSPIRES US

Barcelona plays an important role in our history as it has witnessed the birth and growth of our company. It’s a city that is open to the world, innovative, rebellious and visionary. It’s a dynamic city that evolves at the speed of light, but that never forgets where it came from. Barcelona has forged our character and our way of doing things. A brand that always looks forward without forgetting its roots.

MINERAL LENSES AND NATURAL ACETATE

For three generations, quality has been and continues to be fundamental. We control the entire process from beginning to end, scrutinizing every detail to ensure quality standards are met. Additionally, we work with the best materials on the market, such as pure mineral glass lenses from Barberini and HD Colors technology, as well as natural acetate from Mazzucchelli.

NATURAL MATERIALS

Our frames are made with the extremely high quality of Mazzucchelli acetate. This material comes from cellulose acetate, whose raw materials are cotton and wood. Additionally, this material offers superior resistance and malleability, which provides maximum comfort and durability.

WORKING TOWARDS A BETTER FUTURE

For years, we have been working to be a more sustainable and ethical brand. From natural raw materials to our social project with the Etnia Barcelona Foundation. But we know that this is not enough, and that’s why each day, we strive for our legacy to be leaving a more sustainable future that respects people and the environment.

NATURAL MATERIALS ACETATE AND MINERAL GLASS

We work with natural materials like cotton, wood, and glass, ensuring maximum comfort and an optimal visual experience.

RESPECTFUL PRODUCTION REDUCING PLASTIC USE

We are eliminating single-use plastic from the packaging of our glasses and we work with recyclable materials like the cotton case.

Designed in Barcelona

Our design team creates all of our collections from scratch. They are pioneers in color study, with more than 500 of their own models, inspired by the fashion and art industries.

A project born

Since its inception, lool has recognized itself as a multidisciplinary design studio where different profiles collaborate with a common goal. Once we meet our goal of creating the best screwless hinge, we focus on designing and producing creative frames that are functional and lightweight.

We are creative design studio. Multidisciplinary team.
lool is a multidisciplinary creative studio based in Barcelona. Our team is born from the mixture of different disciplines such as advertising, branding, design, fashion and journalism, which allows us to have a unique and fresh vision in the field of optics.

Built in Barcelona. Inspired by our city.
Barcelona has always had a great tradition with industial design, graphic design and architecture that continues to this day. We want to continue being transmitters of that tradition with our designs to continue pushing and projecting our city as a creative reference in the world.

Architecture inspires us.
We use “BUILT” to refer to the manufacture of glasses creating an analogy with the construction of a building. The forms and concepts of contemporary architecture inspire us to define the concepts of our collections.

Built to last.
We believe that every designed product should have a long lifespan. That is our way of being sustainable, working with the best raw materials creating greater durability in our glasses. Buy better, keep them longer.
